Lenton 2014

In the Lenten season we prepare ourselves by prayer and fasting for the agony of Christ’s Passion and for the glory of His Resurrection.  In this season we examine our own sinful lives and seek ways of repentance with reform.  However, we fast and deny ourselves to show a repentant, and a contrite heart.  God loves human hunger no more than he loved the blood of bulls and goats.  It is our repentance and love that he wants.  He wants us to serve him with gladness.  He wants us to love each other.  He wants us to be glad when it is time to go into the house of the Lord.

Lent is also a time for greater alms.  It is a time to remember the poor–to give extra for our pantry or for our sister parish in Haiti–and to reexamine our conscience about how much we regularly give to his Church.  It is also a time to undertake service in other ways as well.

During this penitential time we offer special services to help all of us in these difficult undertakings.  The special services are listed at the tab for seasonal services.  We warmly invite everyone to join us in this time of spiritual quest.

A LENTEN PRAYER

O Lord Jesus Christ,  Who didst say to Thine Apostles, “Come

ye apart into a desert place, and rest a while,” for there were many coming and going;  grant to me Thy servant that I may rest a while in this present time with Thee.

May I so seek Thee, Whom my soul desires to love, that I may both find Thee, and be found of Thee;  and grant that my Lenten discipline may be helpful in leading me onward through the toils

of my pilgrimage, to that rest which remaineth for the people of God;  where nevertheless they rest not day and night from Thy perfect service, Who with the Father and The Holy Ghost, livest and reignest one God, world without end.  Amen.
